Who is the new president of MWA-Montgomery County?

Funny you should ask. As of last night, I am the new president of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Maryland Writers’ Association.

In a unanimous vote, the new slate of board members for MWA-Montgomery County was approved at last night’s meeting.  The new board consists of the following excellent people:

Izolda Trakhtenberg — Vice President
Joe Demasco — Treasurer
Candace Drew — Secretary
Karen Valentine — Programs Chair
Giselle Calame — Publicity Chair
Carl Rauscher — Webmaster
. . . and me, as president.
I am very excited about the opportunity to head this group, and I know it’s going to be a completely collaborative endeavor. Already I have heard great new ideas for what to include in our meetings, and I have a few ideas of my own that I hope to implement.
I have to thank the St. Louis Publishers Association for having me on their board back in 2012. Without that experience I’m not sure I would have considered this new opportunity.
So, here’s to another year of excellence at MWA-Montgomery. I have some big shoes to fill after the outgoing board did such a fantastic job growing the chapter from  its infancy. I hope to continue the tradition of quality presentations, enthusiastic growth, and a welcoming attitude for all writers.
Thank you to Alix Moore, Carolee Noury, Larry Matthews, Jim King, Carl Rauscher, Marlon Rice, and Joe Demasco for setting the chapter on the right path. We won’t let you down.
Sincerely yours,
Katherine Pickett

  1. Katherine
I’m so excited you were willing to step up to the position of chapter president, and I can’t wait to see where you go from here. MWA Montgomery is lucky to have you!

  2. Congratulations, President  Katherine!  Best wishes for a very successful Term in office.  The picture ;and commentary that follow your announcement makes the election seem a bit trivial.   Good luck anyway.   Love and blessings,   Fran

    1. Thank you, Frances. Unfortunately random advertisements do sometimes appear on the site and the juxtaposition isn’t always appropriate. I do look forward to my new role with the writers’ association.
